today we are going to demonstrate for
you how to set up a home sleep device to
do testing at home this is the equipment
that you have received or you're going
to receive tonight to do the home sleep
test before you put this equipment on
you want to make sure to have a t-shirt
pajamas whatever you wear to bed and
then this equipment will go on top of it
so the first thing that we're going to
apply is a belt that's going to go
around his abdomen and he's going to
hold this right now and I'm gonna come
around him and then I'm gonna grab the
other end and bring this around it it
may be helpful if you have somebody else
at home they can help you attach this
and then that's going to lock in with
the belt you want to make this belt snug
enough that it stays in place so that it
doesn't slide around also it's measuring
your breathing so it's important to have
this right here and snug enough so that
it can register your breathing when
you're sleeping tonight the next belt
we're going to put on is going to go on
the chest and so I'm going to have him
hold this right here and then I'm going
to come around him and grab the other
end and bring it around this belt you
also want to put on fairly snug so that
it stays in place during the evening
when you're sleeping at night and then
you want it to be right in the middle
because this piece in the center is
going to register how you're sleeping
whether you're sleeping on your back on
your abdomen or even on your chest so
this piece we're going to plug into the
device if you look at the electrode
closely you're going to see one side is
round and one side is square so in the
device it's there's only one specific
way to plug this in this is going to go
into here and then you want to push it
in snugly so that it's it has a good
connection
if you can't see color the other thing
you wouldn't look at is the number two
so if this will be the number two belt
and this will be the number two on the
device the next one we're going to
attach is the blue one or the number
three and there's a number three here so
it's going to attach and a number three
here just like that
and just push it in tightly the next one
we're going to attach is the purple one
or the number five and so this one is
going to go to the top and this is
called the snore sensor and so this will
attach on the top like this you want to
make sure it's pushed in snugly and then
if you look at this closely you're going
to see one side is blue and that side is
going to go up against the neck so
you're going to take a piece of tape and
you're going to attach that piece of
tape to the snore sensor just like that
it'll make it easy to hook together
you're going to take it and put it right
up against the area right around where
your pulse is on your neck and then make
sure to push that down firmly with the
tape and then you're going to take
another piece of tape and then you're
going to cross that to keep it on so
that if you move around tonight it's not
going to come off and that just hooks
something like that make sure to push it
down so that it'll be firmly secured so
the next thing that we're going to
attach is the cannula that's going to go
into your nose and then there is a
sensor that's going to hang down in
front of your mouth the cannula is going
to go into your nose and then you're
going to put this around your ears just
like that the next thing that you're
going to do is you're going to take a
piece of tape and you're going to put
this on your cheeks making sure that the
cannula and the sensor is secured
because as you move around tonight we
don't want that piece to come out
because this is the most important piece
and it's going to show us how your
breathing is and so you want to put it
on both sides firmly so that it stays in
place so now you're going to take the
end of the cannula and you're going to
put it in this clear spot down here it
would be number four and that's going to
go into there and then you what you want
to do is twist it on snugly going toward
the left and then you're going to pull
it to make sure it's firmly
attached and then you're going to take
the sensor that's going in front of your
mouth and it's gray or the number one
and that's going to go in here and
you're going to push it in firmly as
well the next one is the oximeter and
you want to take it and pull it all the
way out and then you're going to put it
on your finger any finger you want to
make sure that the cable is on the top
and then we're going to tape the cable
to your hand or your wrist you're gonna
take that piece of tape and put it on
securely if you don't feel like one
piece is enough thing put another piece
on so that it'll stay on during the
night when you're moving now once you've
got this all attached and the electrodes
connected then you want to turn the
device on so if you look underneath here
there's a green button or on the on the
cover on the case you'll see a hand
pointing up that button what you're
going to do is press it firmly for about
20 seconds and when you do that all
these arrows are going to light up and a
green light will flash there now if it's
been pre-programmed previously you're
going to see a green light already
flashing there when you're attaching the
electrodes as you're setting it up but
this device is manual so when we turn it
on it's going to turn on the device and
then all these electrodes should light
up and if they're all connected
appropriately they will turn off so now
we're going to turn on the device and
check the electrodes so we're going to
hold this button down firmly and then
all the electrodes should light up and
then they should turn off which they did
but if you saw one that was flashing
that means something's not connected
correctly so if you saw one flashing you
would check the electrode reattach it
hold the button down again and check to
see if it turns on and turns off if it
turns off then it is connected correctly
and you're ready to go to bed once you
have all the equipment on and you've
done your the testing of the electrodes
then you're going to go to sleep with
the equipment on if you get up during
the night do not remove the equipment
keep it on throughout the
your goal is to sleep with it six or
more hours that night so that we get
good information from the test when you
are finished remove all the equipment
and put it back inside the kit okay so
the next thing you're going to do after
you've removed all your equipment is
you're going to do a questionnaire so
you want to fill out all the information
on the questionnaire return the kit to
the clinic designated that you were to
return it to and do that before ten
o'clock in the morning give it to one of
the receptionist they will check it in
for you they'll give you a receipt and
then they'll send it to the downtown
clinic to be evaluated
