How it's made - Omega forged pistons - Part 1

okay so today we're at Amiga Pistons and

over the series of videos we're going to

show you how we go from

fill it of aluminium to a forged mini

piston hi I'm Jason

I've been forged in the pits of their

meager since 1995 we start the process

with the raw material here each piston

is traced back to the each bar so we

know if any problems occur in the future

we we can follow the materials back this

to 6 1 a we also do use for a three to

four the most form and suffocation a to

six or eight for swim then we'll cut

each fill it off to Pacific size for

various jobs and then from from the

cotton off we will face off on this

machine to remove any imperfections from

the cutting process to this forging here

right this is the mini 73.5 flyweight

forging it ate it up to pacific

temperature

and we apply lubricant and also on the

side and then wipe off any excess and

then we take a billets

and then that's the complete boarding

process

[Applause]

these use around about 500 tons shipping

if it's a larger slipper type origin

will naturally go a little bit higher

[Music]

I then check for any imperfections on

the lettering or inside the boxes or

make sure we're not gonna miss any bad

people and then that's a finish for G

right this is a batch has been forged

this is one that was also forced earlier

it's been be blasted to check for any

imperfections after this process any any

excess material will be removed and then

taken down to the hateem and okay so

we're at the heat treated plant now

you'll see and get roughly about five

hundred Pistons in there are different

shapes and sizes heated up to near

melting point of the aluminium and then

quenched in the tank of the back which

is absolutely key for making a strong

forged piston the Pistons go for a

bespoke heat treatment process and this

is how they come out and then they'll

need Reed blasting and trimming off any

excess material and then they start the

machining process each forging is always

hand checked for quality by for Germany

or I for a MotoGP distance to me the

sound quality you know I always look for

the same quality inside although I'll

always check winning any

and any rights to the 1040 form of all

the letters got to be 44 any marks that

will put a carry with apologies will

always a check and I'll check that a on

every 40 no matter where more than 10 or

about

okay so that's it for part one so here's

an example with not a mini piston just

back from heat treatment then get

blasters roughed out inside and then

machined on the CNC machine so we'll

show you all that in the next video
