What is a HEPA Filter and HEPA Air Cleaner? (Explained)

What exactly is a HEPA filter and why is it so important?

Also, what is a HEPA air cleaner anyways?

If you’re asking those types of questions, this video is for you.

So, keep watching.

It’s time to clear the air with this thing called a HEPA filter.

In short, the term HEPA stands for “High Efficiency Particulate Air”, and what that

basically means is it’s a special type of filter that captures microscopic particles.

Those particles include things like dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, bacteria,

smoke, and particulate matter that comes from outdoor air pollution.

As the name suggests, HEPA air cleaners are devices that clean the air by removing microscopic

This leads to cleaner, fresher air for you to breathe.

HEPA air cleaners are not only great for people with allergies or asthma but also those who

enjoy healthier living and a cleaner home.

The only drawback to HEPA filters is that they can’t capture viruses, odors, or chemical

Those particles are either too small or require another kind of filter to trap them.

Another thing about HEPA filters is that they come in various types.

When shopping for an air cleaner, you’ll find that each one may refer to this filter

as a True HEPA, HEPA-like, HEPA-type, or just plain old HEPA filter.

But the differences between them is huge.

Essentially, a True HEPA filter is the best type because it’s certified to capture 99.97%

of particles down to 0.3 microns in size.

This includes the widest range of indoor contaminants.

On the other hand, filters labeled as HEPA-like, HEPA-type, or HEPA can only capture particles

that are 2 microns or larger.

That’s more than a 500% difference in efficiency and these filters miss ultra fine pollutants.

So, the best advice you can follow here is to only buy an air cleaner that uses a True

HEPA filter.

The other types just aren’t worth the money if having the cleanest air possible is your

top concern.
